Hi, thanks for this software!

I'm not sure I can use it for driving assistance because of the lack of a zoom feature, and the need to select map tiles, but I think it's great software concept anyway, and I'm sure I'll find a use for it -- possibly hiking, where hands are free, and distances covered are smaller.

I'd like to report that it works well on Windows CE 6.0 powered VY (brand) GPS. I can't find a model number on the box, but the sku number (from dealextreme) is 39243.

Perhaps you have workarounds (or more properly, ways of working) that allow you to more easily navigate without a zoom feature.

Also crossing map tiles without having to select them from the dropdown.

One other problem I'm having is finding out what the GPS port and parameters are on this unit (not your problem, I know) -- can't find any published details on it.

Anyway, congratulations on a really nice piece of user empowering software. Very Happy

While the mapping function works great on theis GPS, I haven't yet succeeded in getting the present position working.

The default com port parameters don't seem to work, and I don't know where to go from there. I did try installing a registry editor, and looking for appropriate keys to see if the GPS info was there, but I couldn't find anything referring to a com port or baud rates, etc. Maybe I missed it though, or it is a one byte code, or something else not obvious.

The manufacturer has no data on the site for this GPS, and there is nothing in the manual.

Any suggestions for how to find this information on the device itself?

Thanks!

Steve

ps I was wrong about the inability to auto-switch between map tiles in my last post -- apologies -- I haven't used Maplorer enough to learn the best ways to use it -- looking forward to it.

Thanks again for this software.

I've now got the GPS position working. It turned out that the comport info was essentially correct (com1 9600 baud) though I think I needed to add a stop bit.

The real problem I had was that I needed to get satellites registering in the onboard GPS mode of the device before switching over to Windows CE and starting up Maplorer. If you just turn the unit on an go to Win CE and Maplorer, it doesn't seem to pick up the satellites, so you get a continuous "invalid" reading.

The only other problem I had (now solved) was that the longitude numbers of the corners of a map are switched from top right to lower left. This may have something to do with my longitude being negative, and a slight bug in maplorer.

The symptoms are that your track goes in the correct vertical direction, but the wrong horizontal direction. You also start out in the wrong position on your map, and have to correct current position. Generally you rae off to the right of where you should be.

If you swithch the maps longitude coordinates (TR and BL) everything works fine.

Having fun with this program now!! Thanks! Very Happy
